Fairy news - Competition entry

Would you believe it? It's officially Summer. Well, it might be. Sort of.

Whilst the warm and sunny weather we've had for weeks had us all thinking Summer had come early, meteorological Summer (that's the season according to the scientists who study and predict the weather) officially started on the first of June.

Ironically, this week has seen the wet and colder weather return, a typical 'British Summer' if you like. Although, according to the Met Office more thunderstorms occur in the Summer months than at any other time of year.

Did you know however, that the first day of Summer changes depending on who you ask? Astronomical Summer is based on the positions of the Sun and Earth and it can start on either the 20th, the 21st or the 22nd of this month. In astronomy, Summer begins with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and ends with the autumnal equinox. This means that in 2020, Summer starts on the 20th of June and ends on the 22nd of September.

This week saw the first ever instance of a private company putting a manned rocket into space. Although the launch was initially delayed due to weather, the astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken had a successful launch on Saturday, docking with the International Space Station 19 hours later. This is the first time that a commercial aerospace company, in this case Elon Musk's firm Space X, provided their services to NASA and marks a new era of space exploration. It has been touted by some as the next step in colonising or taking general members of the public into space.

We are pleased to say that Finding Fairies received its first entry into our Fairy Garden competition this week. Launched a few weeks ago, our competition asks what you can make to surprise us from our surprise kits. I must say we have had a lovely surprise so far with the interest. Fortunately, you have until the 1st August to send us your entry giving you plenty of time to grow your garden.

Finding Fairies has recently added plenty of new products to our range. Our Summer Dreams collection is back with new homes and miniatures to get your fairy garden 'Summer ready'. We also have new rock painting kits, which are a brilliant way to add beautiful personal touches to your gardens. They are already proving popular with several sales. One very happy customer wasted no time and sent us a photo of his work. Thank you Tommy.
